We get it. Nobody likes to be sold. So when you meet with that realtor for the first time, you can’t help but be suspicious—is that realtor lying to you? Does the realtor only care about getting the top dollar from you? Will you have to sell the realtor your soul in order to buy or sell your house in Los Angeles? We’re no stranger to the first-time-meeting defensiveness, but here are the top five reasons to trust your realtor. And yeah, as a realtor myself, I have obvious motivation here, but shouldn’t a real estate agent be the one to tell you this in the first place? Allow me:
- We win when you win: The best part about being a real estate agent is the opportunity for teamwork and helping people. When you get the home of your dreams under contract, or when you find not only a top-paying buyer, but one who loves and vows to keep loving your old home in the future, we ALL win! Realtors don’t get paid until the deal is done. This means that we are working for and with you until the goal—buying or selling your home—is met!
- You need an expert on your team: Whether you’re buying or selling it is VERY likely the person you are buying from or selling to has a realtor working on their team and in their best interest. This means it’s only fair for you to have your own real estate agent fighting for your needs. We have the connections, the experience, and the licensing to see your transaction go through as smoothly as possible. Your realtor has a fiduciary responsibility to protect and fight for your interests: we are on your team!
- We took classes and passed a test: Sure, you’ve likely done this yourself for a variety of subjects. But your real estate agent took classes specific to the real estate profession in California, and had to pass a test in order to be licensed. So ignoring the years of experience and countless transactions your real estate agent has under their belt, they’ve also quantified their understanding by passing an official exam proving their earned knowledge as a licensed real estate sales person.
- We are held accountable for our actions: As your real estate representative, we are legally and contractually obligated to honestly represent you to the best of our ability, being sure to fulfil our fiduciary responsibility to keep you informed, keep your interests at the top of our priority list, and help you enjoy a successful real estate transaction.
- You don’t know what you don’t know: This is the best kept secret from real estate clients, because they’re human! You just don’t know what you don’t know. Sure, you may have a grasp of the general process down—look for a home or seller, make or review an offer, and then happily skip into the sunset with your money or new home—but this doesn’t mean you understand the many legal, procedural, and finer details of the transaction. It takes a lot more expertise than HGTV would lead you to believe!
These are the reasons to trust your realtor. Whether or not you like or feel comfortable with them? Well that’s a whole other blog post. Stay tuned, sports fans.
